Pause. Take It One Day at a Time.
This is the best advice my friend ever gave me.
Did anyone truly prepare us for adulthood? Did we ever sit down and meticulously plan for the responsibilities that would come our way? Did we anticipate feeling overwhelmed, carrying the burdens and complexities of life?
The truth is, we didn’t. And even if we were given the chance, would we have had the wisdom to figure everything out? I doubt it.
No wonder the Lord provided the Israelites with manna—a day at a time. Jesus Himself often withdrew to spend time alone with His Father every day. He understood the importance of asking for daily bread, not just for physical sustenance but for every need in life.
I am convinced that “daily bread” isn’t limited to food. It includes joy and peace for the day, wisdom and understanding for our relationships, grace to resist temptations, encouragement during tough times, gratitude in the midst of challenges, healing when we are unwell, and strength to pursue our purpose. It encompasses everything we need to navigate each day.
One of life’s greatest stressors is the fear of the unknown—trying to manage a future we can’t see or predict. This relentless anxiety has led to depression, hypertension, chronic illnesses, and even suicide for many.
Yes, I firmly believe in taking responsibility for our lives, planning ahead, and practicing self-care. These are critical for daily living. However, I also recognize that some things are beyond us, and only a higher power can address them.
God, in His infinite wisdom, offers a perfect shoulder to lean on. His unfailing love is proof of His dependability. He is trustworthy and reliable.
Perhaps it’s time we normalize stepping back, reconnecting with God, and casting our burdens on Him. Let’s trust Him to provide our daily bread—one day at a time.
Thank you, my dear friend, for this profound advice. I will do my best to heed it. And when I forget, please remind me.
Good Morning, Wednesday.
